Aberdeens’ Urban Dolphins
With over 28,000 shipping movements each year Aberdeen is one of the busiest ports in the UK and the main centre of marine operations for the energy industry in North-west Europe, however the city`s harbour mouth has also become one of the best places in the country to see Bottlenose Dolphins.
Customers on our April Dolphin Adventure sailings were treated to a really up close and personal display from these amazing animals! Leaping out of the water, playfully riding alongside the bow of the boat and genuinely being charming and enjoying the attention, Aberdeens’ “Urban Dolphins” are a must see!
Last year we even took out the team from the BBC’s springwatch whilst they filmed from the boat, you can see the episode by clicking here.
There is just something so special about these animals and we are so privileged to watch them, a truly unforgettable experience when you are in a small boat so near to them. At times there can be as many as 20 dolphins in the pod, creating such an amazing display in the water, leaping high into the air and creating huge splashes with their powerful tails!
As well as the near daily sightings of Bottlenose Dolphins at the harbour, you may be one of the lucky ones to spot Risso’s Dolphin, White Beaked Dolphin, Minke Whale and Harbour Porpoise can be seen.
What other city can boast such amazing wildlife just 2 miles from its lively city centre!
