Father Zip-Lines Across the Clyde to Raise Money for Spina Bifida Charity
Flowing through the city of Glasgow, the River Clyde is the eighth longest river in the UK. It is the perfect place from which to view the city of Glasgow. Here at Clyde Cruises, we have a fantastic day cruise available for those who like the idea of sipping a glass of Prosecco while taking in the sights and sounds of this bustling city from the river.
A Different Way to See the Clyde
While there is no doubting that our river cruises are the perfect way to enjoy the Clyde, one Motherwell father had an entirely different vantage point of the river and its surrounds recently when he zip-lined across it. From 150 feet in the air, Stuart Leckie zip-lined across the river to raise money for Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland (SBH Scotland).
Stuart’s three-year-old daughter Gemma suffers from SBH, and he said that he wanted to do everything he could to help her and other children with the condition. The ‘Glide the Clyde’ event saw more than one hundred people take part, crossing the Clyde at speeds of up to forty miles per hour while raising more than £15,000 for the charity at the same time.
The money raised by those involved in the event will go towards home and hospital support for families dealing with SBH. Stuart said, “Gemma is now three, and benefits greatly from one-to-one support from the charity, but it’s my wife and I who are really benefiting at this stage. SBH Scotland has been a real godsend to us and made a huge difference to our lives and Gemma’s.”
For those who would rather not see the Clyde from the dizzying heights of 150 feet, Clyde Cruises can offer a much more pleasant and serene alternative.
