Aberdeen is one of Scotland’s leading lights when it comes to tourism. The city has a host of events and its booming economy continues to attract people from all over the world every year. Its close proximity to the Scottish Highlands makes it a popular choice as a base from which to explore.

A visit to Aberdeen offers tourists plenty of choices in terms of things to see and do. The city is a fantastic destination for shopping and nightlife, and there are many parks, gardens, and open spaces to enjoy.

Aberdeen has no shortage of historical buildings worth a visit, and the city’s architecture composing of many granite built buildings has earned it the nickname of ‘the Granite City’. Many prefer the nickname ‘the Silver City’ due to the mica in the granite that sparkles in the sun.

Aberdeen also has a number of museums and galleries as well as some stunning castles, which all prove popular visitor attractions.

One of the most notable features of the city is the harbour; from here, many fantastic opportunities for boat trips around the harbour and out into the North Sea are available. Clyde Cruises have a number of cruises operating every day from Aberdeen Harbour, including their fabulous ‘Fish and Ships’ cruise, which gives guests the chance to enjoy a relaxing trip around the harbour while munching on some delicious fish and chips, washed down with a Scottish favourite – a can of Irn Bru!

The ‘Dolphin Adventure Cruise’ is another popular boat trip offered by Clyde Cruises. This fantastic excursion heads out of the harbour to the North Sea in search of magnificent marine creatures such as sharks, whales, dolphins, and porpoise. This is a hugely popular trip for the whole family and one not to be missed by those visiting the city of Aberdeen in 2015.

Clyde Cruises will attend at the Visit Scotland Expo; you can find them at stand B31.

Benefits of Visit Scotland Expo

The chance to promote products and services to a global audience is the main benefit of attending the Visit Scotland Expo. As well as getting a company’s name out to a wider audience, it also allows exhibitors to network with other companies and to develop partnerships.

Many of the travel companies attending the Visit Scotland Expo will be hoping to add Scotland to their destination list for the first time, and those exhibiting will have a greater chance of being promoted in foreign countries just by attending.

AECC Aberdeen

Visit Scotland Expo 2015 will be held at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC), which is the largest conference centre in northern Scotland. More than six hundred events are held at the centre each year, with over 300,000 people attending on an annual basis.

The AECC has a number of conference facilities, a 4,800-seat arena, and a Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotel. As well as being the home to the 2015 Visit Scotland Expo, the centre has hosted a number of high profile events, including music concerts and local sporting events. Aberdeen City Council has approved plans for the centre to be relocated to another area of the city; it is hoped the project will be completed by 2017.

Staying in Aberdeen

If you are planning to visit the 2015 Visit Scotland Expo then there are numerous places to stay, both in and around Aberdeen city centre. The AECC complex has two hotels, which are ideal for those who plan to stay for the expo only. However, for those that plan to enjoy a bit more of their time in Scotland and plan to see a bit more of this wonderful country, there are many options available, from self-catering lodges, to five-star hotels, to guesthouses – in Aberdeen and beyond.

Many visitors will choose a central hotel within the city during the two-day event, before heading to the Highlands for a break amid some of the most spectacular scenery and wildlife the UK has to offer.

A Trip to the Highlands

The Highlands is home to some of the most diverse and stunning landscapes on the planet and anyone who visits Scotland should really make an effort to see it. There are so many fantastic things to do in the Highlands, with many of the activities focusing on the outdoors. If you are the adventurous type, then a cycling and sailing holiday is ideal.

This allows you to travel many of the fabulous cycling routes in Scotland, where you can enjoy spectacular lochs, glens and mountains as well as wildlife such as red deer, seals, otters, red squirrels, and golden eagles.

After a day or two of cycling, you can sit back and enjoy a relaxing river or canal cruise courtesy of Clyde Cruises. As well as offering amazing cruises from Aberdeen, there are also a number of opportunities for enjoyable trips down the Caledonian Canal, or a sightseeing cruise from the beautiful town of Oban.
